When our
son was diagnosed with autism five years ago, we were devastated. Only months before
we had a beautiful, perfect 15 month old boy. He was happy, healthy, and growing
normally. Suddenly, over a period of about eight weeks, everything
changed. Max started to rapidly develop what we now know to be the classic symptoms
of autism. We were confused and frightened. We ran from one doctor to another,
and went through every test, evaluation, consultation, and
observation we could find. We frantically searched for information.
We found little.
For the next two years, we spent a small fortune, in a hit or
miss process, ordering books from publishers and obscure, far-away book stores.
Often we'd receive what we now refer to as "the gloom and doom works", and we
missed dozens of good informative books that were available.
To help ease the struggle for the many families that will follow,
we have established.... |

We are sincerely thankful to so many people for all the
support during the establishment of our foundation and the opening of our resource
center. We especially thank these three groups, who have consistently gone above and
beyond when we've asked for help:
Naples Community Healthcare/Briggs Resource Center is housing
and staffing our Center. We are paying no overhead, which allows our funds to be
spent entirely on books, education and autism awareness, as they should be!
The Membership of The Moorings Presbyterian Church of Naples
has provided endless labor, funding and emotional support. The church sponsored two
major fundraisers: Maxie's Birthday Bash 1997 and 1998, and continues to be
instrumental in the planning and implementation of this project.
Maxie's Dad Tom is employed by Ruby Tuesday, Inc. Whether providing
meals for local Birthday Bashes, or sponsoring Nation-wide fundraisers in their 400-plus
locations, Ruby Tuesday and their employees have shown incredible support for our
programs.
